CLASS OF 1982

Continuing the posts on batches, Col Vininder Singh(Class of 1982 'A' Sec) has taken great pains not only to remember names of a lot of his sec class fellows but also quite a few from 'B' Sec. Beside this, Vinnie sir also recollected names of quite a few of the school staff. I shall be writing about them in a seperate post. But for now let's begin by listing out the batch of 1982. Needless to say, this list is dynamic and will keep taking shape with addition of names, status and contact details as and when they are contributed. Hope that soon there will also be the group phtographs to make recollection of class fellows easy.

As promised, here are some snaps of the school taken today morning during our visit to the school. A pleasant surprise was the presence of Mr Chanchal Singh, the Dy DEO, Chandigarh, who used to be our Maths teacher in 1983-84. In fact it was out and out Rajiv Tewari's initiative to have arranged for the photographer as also calling up Chanchal Sir. Hope the pictures will stir some emotion in all of us. It has been our deliberate attempt to capture those areas of school which are of the 70's-80's vintage.

UPDATE

The Blog has completed one month since its inception and has seen reasonably good response. Many people have joined, commented & contributed; and have got in touch with their old class fellows and friends here and abroad. Seniors and Junior batches have shared their school photographs and contact details of their friends. So, in a sense one feels energised. Though,I must admit, there are some ex-students whom I have personally called up, cajoled, bugged but without much success. Hope things change. Some may also have (mis)construed it of being handiwork of "an idle mind with apparently no work"!!!!!! Well, I leave it to their wisdom and would endeavour to carry on with this effort to the extent possible because I attribute this blog to a feeling of nostalgia and a yearning to get in touch with all those who started their journey of gaining knowledge together; irrespective of who they have become and where they are now. Hope this effort is seen in the correct perspective. This year as our batch completed 25 years of passing out from this Institution, one has felt a sense of bewilderness at not knowing "who is where, doing what". I am sure others have also experienced similar sentiments. I am sanguine that together we will be able to form a workable network within our batches and other friends so that we are able to share such milestones in future. This forum can also be used to share fun moments spent together (by uploading pics of such get togethers, as Rajiv Tewari has promised).
Today we also made a visit to our "Alma Mater". It was such a great feeling to be standing in the same corridors where we used to run around once upon a time. The school has got some additions to its structure, but all that we are familiar with is still there. We have been promised by the school Principal "Ms Ravi Raj Kaur" that she and her staff would provide all the support to see this effort bearing fruit. In fact I have requested the Principal to provide us with names of old students of our vintage so that the lists could be updated. Soon, we shall also be taking pics of the school premises and uploading them so that everyone near and far can have a glimpse of the school. Hope you all will like it.

CLASS OF 1985

About 10 days back, I made a call to Rajiv Tewari(Class of 1985) from Leh to apprise him of the blog. Not only was Rajiv's response very enthusiastic and positive, he also informed me of efforts being made by his batch to locate the drifted class fellows and the get together their batch had organised in Dec 2008; albeit only at the batch level. As assured, Rajiv has taken out time to locate, annotate and mail the group photograph of his batch. I am thankful to him for the effort made and look forward to getting more help to concretise and fructify this endeavour. Hope this list gets updated with contact information and other details.

AMANDEEP SINGH (CLASS OF 1983)

............and the story continues
It was Sangeeta Kohli (Class of 1984) who informed me about Amandeep Singh (Class of 1983) and it took less than a minute to locate his whereabouts on the net. Amandeep Singh Gill is an Officer of the IFS(Indian Foreign Service 1992 batch) presently in Stanford as a visiting Scholor at CISAC, Stanford University. His profile can be seen at http://iis-db.stanford.edu/staff/3887/Amandeep_Singh_Gill-CV.pdf. I remember Amandeep, one year senior to us, as a person who always seemed to be focussed towards his goals in life. He was our school topper and had a pleasing personality. We take pride in associating him with the school and vice-versa.
This is how CISAC has put his profile:
Amandeep Singh Gill
Visiting Scholar

He has also served as an expert on the UN Secretary General’s panels of experts on Small Arms and Light Weapons and on Missiles.
His research priorities include disarmament, arms control and non proliferation, Asian regional security and human security issues. He is currently working on the interaction of nuclear policies of major states, particularly in Asia. Before joining the Indian Foreign Service, Amandeep Gill worked as a telecommunications engineer. He retains an abiding interest in the interaction of science, security and politics. He is founder of a non-profit called Farmers First Foundation that seeks to reclaim agriculture for the farmers and demonstrate the viability of integrated agriculture in harmony with nature."

MOVERS & SHAKERS

Uploading of photographs contributed by Ms Amita Bahri seems to have acted as catalyst beside adding a unique charm to the blog. A lot of old students have commented on the blog and one feels optimistic of the blog picking up momentum. During interaction with other class fellows one finds a long list of school alumni who are doing very well for themselves. I would like to clarify that we all are doing well in our respective vocation that we have chosen and I have no authority to be judgemental. However, I am putting up a list of those who are well placed professionally and make us feel proud of sharing the same "Alma Mater". I begin with some names that I know of and together we will keep adding names:-

THEY'VE DONE US PROUD

Like most schools, 35 Model also boasts of many famous and illustrious alumni who have carved a niche' for themselves in their field of work. When we joined school way back in 1974, our Honours Board had the name of one Mr Anup Pandey right on the top. That person is now Dr. Anup Chandra Pandey, IAS (UP Cadre), a very successful senior Bureaucrat. Dr Mona Gupta & Ms Arti Rishi, IAS(Orrisa Cadre), Ms Neerja, IAS(Haryana Cadre), Ms Vandana Chawla, IRS Ms Vibha Sharma, Indian Defence Estates Service are a few other names that come to my mind. Who can forget Vivek Shauq, a successful film actor who used to regale us with his acts in School? Chetan Sharma, the famous cricketer (and a prospective politician), was a 1981 batch alumni who shifted out of school around '79 or '80. I am sure there are many more such names who have brought glory to the school. It is requested that more such inspiring success stories be brought to the fore on this blog to let everyone know of the Gems that our school has produced.
